Pundit claims Phillips ‘the main one’ after £100m Leeds bids reveal

Kevin Phillips has claimed “it is brilliant” Leeds United are in a position to turn down bids for their top players.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner suspects Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Raphinha were the subject of over £100million worth of interest this summer.

As quoted by Leeds Live (23rd August), Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear revealed in programme notes that the club ‘vigorously resisted’ over £100m of interest in their players in the window just gone.

The Whites bolstered their squad with the star signings of Dan James and Junior Firpo this summer while also keeping hold of their big names.

Phillips believes Leeds’ transfer business shows the owners continued commitment to progression.

“Kinnear’s comments are interesting because I haven’t read or heard anywhere that a club made a bid for any of their players,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I’m sure Phillips was probably the main one. I imagine he was the bulk of it.

“Bamford could be another one because there was talk of Arsenal being interested. Perhaps someone made a cheeky little bid before he signed his new deal.

“Raphinha is another because he had an outstanding season last year and is a really exciting talent.

“It would be of no surprise to me if teams made bids for those three.

“It’s just brilliant that Leeds are in a position where they can turn down these bids. They are not a selling club. They want to keep these players and progress.”
