Pundit claims Rangers are ‘scared’ and this is how Celtic reacted

Frank McAvennie claims Rangers are “scared” to drop points in the title race and it is affecting their performances.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, also suggested the Hoops could suffer from the same issue.

Rangers returned to winning ways in the Premiership by beating St Johnstone 1-0 on Wednesday (2 March).

Before that game, the Gers had only taken 13 points from the last 24 available.

This run had seen Rangers fall behind Celtic and they now sit three points behind their city rivals.

McAvennie claims the fear of dropping more points could be affecting the Gers.

“That form isn’t great for them,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think they are scared of dropping more points. That’s affecting the performance.

“Players aren’t playing how they usually would because they are worried about making mistakes.

“Celtic have had a bit of the same thing but now they are top it is not taking as big of an impact on them.

“It’s going to be close, I’m not saying Rangers are going to fall away. Look at the form, they aren’t winning every week.

“They have dropped off the top of the table and Celtic are there now. They aren’t battering teams, they aren’t playing well.

“It’s about how you react and the reaction could have been better.”

Rangers

Rangers are next in action against Aberdeen on Saturday (5 March).

They then face Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday (10 March).
