Pundit criticises ‘selfish’ Bamford and claims he’s causing ‘unrest’ in Leeds dressing room

Patrick Bamford is a selfish player and may be the cause of “unrest” at Leeds United, according to Frank McAvennie.

The West Ham and Celtic legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old was being shouted at by his teammates during the 2-0 loss at the London Stadium for not passing the ball enough.

Bamford has been one of Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s standout performers this season, with his 27 Premier League appearances yielding 13 goals and six assists.

However, against the Irons on Monday night he squandered a number of big opportunities, as the visitors were made to rue missed chances.

McAvennie said he expected more from Bamford and suggested he was not a “team player”.

“Bamford should have scored a couple of times and a couple of times he should have passed it,” he told Football Insider.

“It looked to me as if there could be a wee bit of unrest. There was a lot of people shouting at him when he took a shot instead of slipping one of the other boys in. There was a lot of shouting and I was thinking, ‘Ooh, what’s going on here?’

“Maybe they are low on confidence, I don’t know. I thought he was better than that, Bamford, I thought he was a team player.

“I do not watch him regularly enough but against West Ham it was all about himself. It was selfish. He never brought his teammates into play and they let him know.

“He is top goalscorer though and he has proved his doubters wrong this season. It might just be a drop in form or maybe he is trying too hard.

“Sometimes you have to bring your teammates in though, it is not all about him.”
