Pundit demands answers from Everton board as Frank Lampard left ‘in limbo’

Everton may have to sell before they can buy this month due to their excessive spending over the last few seasons.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ January strategy.

Everton are yet to make a senior signing this month with the club second-bottom of the Premier League.

Everton have lost £373m in the last three years and have only narrowly escaped punishment under the current terms of FFP.

McManus fears for the Blues if they are unable to boost their squad this month.

“Where are the signings? Where is the backing for the manager?” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I’m not sure what the plan is at Everton, they clearly need to sign some players and there has been nothing so far.

“They have never been shy to spend money in the past. Maybe they are right at the edge of financial fair play. That would make sense.

“So that might mean they have to sell before they can buy but who is buying any of those players? Other than Pickford and some of the defenders, the rest have been hopeless this season.

“Money was spent in the summer, that’s one argument. But you just look at how it was spent and the impact those signings have had.

“They will go down if they don’t sign anyone. You would expect to see loads of movement but there has been absolutely nothing so far.

“It’s not fair on Lampard.

What’s he meant to do? He’s just in limbo.”
