Pundit demands Liverpool action as new Darwin Nunez footage analysed
Alan Hutton has claimed Liverpool should have done more to stop the abuse Joachim Andersen received after Darwin Nunez’s red card.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Andersen “did his job” against Nunez.
As shown on Sky Sports (15 August), Nunez was sent off after a clash with the Crystal Palace defender in the second half of the 1-1 draw on Monday.
The 23-year-old now faces a three game ban and is set to miss the Reds’ clash against Man United as well as matches against Bournemouth and Newcastle United.
As reported by the Daily Mail (19 August), Andersen took to Instagram to share that he had received 300-400 abusive messages from Liverpool supporters after the game that included death threats.
When asked if the Anfield club could do more to deter fans from abusing players, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think so.

“Nowadays it’s far too easy to just go on to social media and abuse people and it’s not right, it’s not nice. See at the end of the day, Andersen did his job. Did he have a little grab and a little kick at him? Yeah he did but that’s football, it’s a contact sport, you don’t expect that reaction.
“As a professional, he shouldn’t be reacting like that. It’s not Andersen’s fault so I don’t see the reason why he has to be abused about it. So you’d like to see Liverpool coming out and maybe saying something that fans shouldn’t be reacting to players over incidents like that.“
