Pundit destroys ‘whinging’ Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool stars exposed – ‘I’m sick of it’

Noel Whelan has insisted Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should be “whinging” at his own players rather than Brentford – after accusing them of “stretching the rules” during set-piece situations.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Reds need to find a “nasty streak” after their loss against the London side.

Liverpool suffered a fifth Premier League defeat of the season on Monday (2 January), losing 3-1 away at Brentford.

Speaking post-match to Sky Sports, Klopp accused the Bees of “stretching the rules” during set pieces.

He also claimed Ibrahima Konate was fouled immediately before Bryan Mbuemo made it 3-1, insisting VAR was “hiding” during the contentious moment.

Liverpool sit sixth following the loss – seven points away from the top four and some 16 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He needs to stop whinging.

“I’m sick of managers coming out after games and complaining about aggressiveness – it’s a game of football.

“If Liverpool had that nasty streak, he wouldn’t be complaining.

“Defeats and losing games tend to bring the worst out of managers – and Klopp is just picking at little things.

“You’re taught from a young age to be aggressive at set pieces and win your one-on-one battles. If they can’t do that, then that’s not a problem for Brentford.

“Brentford just wanted it the most.

“Instead of whinging about it, Klopp has got to teach his side to be stronger. I’m sick of it – he should be whinging at his own players.”
