Pundit digs at Leeds United after source’s Chris Wood update
Leeds United should target other strikers before signing Newcastle United’s Chris Wood.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Whites’ hunt for a new striker.
Wood, 31, moved to St. James’ Park from Burnley in January for a £25million fee but has been reduced to a bit-part player this season.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (3 December) that Leeds United are considering a shock move for the big striker as they seek a proven alternative to Rodrigo Moreno and Patrick Bamford.
However, McManus claims the Whites should look elsewhere.
“If you are going to spend the money on Wood, it will take a lot to get him out of Newcastle, I don’t get that,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“Newcastle paid a lot of money for him last January and they will want some sort of return on that, they won’t let him go for nothing.
“If you are going to spend that money then surely you want someone a bit more consistent? Maybe someone younger because Wood is at the end of his career.
“On one hand, I get it. But surely there are better ways to spend that money? He doesn’t fit the profile Leeds have been targeting recently.”

Wood made his name in English football at Elland Road when he scored 30 goals in the 2016-17 season before moving to Burnley.
The New Zealand international has played 16 times across all competitions for Newcastle this season, including just two Premier League starts.
In other news, a medical insider has claimed that Newcastle United should be “concerned” after the latest on Callum Wilson.
