Pundit digs at Man United fans criticising ‘total footballer’ McTominay

Paul Robinson has launched a staunch defence of Man United midfielder Scott McTominay after the loss to Wolves.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested “the criticism levelled” at the 25-year-old and his teammate Fred is unjust.

McTominay started alongside Nemanja Matic on Monday night as the Red Devils were beaten 1-0 at home by Wolves.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of match (3 January), Paul Ince said he would have given the captaincy to McTominay in the absence of the injured Harry Maguire.

However, Rangnick handed the armband to Cristiano Ronaldo.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of McTominay’s development, Robinson said: “McTominay has come on again.

“He’s been entrusted in that defensive role and he has achieved a lot at a young age already. He has matured into an all round player this year.

“There has been a lot of criticism levelled at him and Fred at Manchester United. The fans didn’t like the fact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played them week in, week out regardless of performance.

“The new manager has come in and stuck with McTominay. He must be doing something right.

“He looks like an all round centre-midfielder, a total footballer. A player who is comfortable on the ball, has great vision and can break up the play.”

In other news, pundit fears Maguire could face extended spell out after Man United XI after update.
