Pundit drops ‘big’ Daizen Maeda transfer claim after Celtic agree deal
Daizen Maeda wants to stay at Celtic.
But speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton insisted the Hoops have covered their backs in the event they choose to sell Maeda.
Last week (6 July), the Celts confirmed that the attacker has extended his future at Parkhead until 2027.
The 25-year-old has been attracting interest from clubs south of the border, particularly since former boss Ange Postecoglou took over at Tottenham.
Maeda has been open about his desire to hit a new level in his footballing career and as quoted by footballscotland (13 June), believes he can play on a “higher stage” after what he learned from his previous maanger.
But Hutton insisted Celtic fans don’t have to worry about the Japan international moving on any time soon.
“I think there will be a part of it that the club are thinking they have tied him down to a long contract, they know there are clubs sniffing about, it just covers their back,” he told Football Insider.
“It gets them the best fee possible for the player.

“At the end of the day Maeda must have been more than comfortable to sign it. That tells me he is happy to stay at the club, if he was not then that would be a straight no.
“I think that is the biggest thing, he has a greed to it which tells you he wants to stay at the football club.“
