Pundit drops ‘big’ Todd Cantwell transfer claim after Rangers bid accepted

Todd Cantwell won’t find a “bigger” club than Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has been impressed by Cantwell since his arrival at Ibrox but thinks the Gers will struggle to find more players like him.

The 25-year-old was one of Michael Beale’s first signings as Rangers boss in January and had an impressive second half of the season, netting six goals in 20 appearances.

Winter arrivals Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin have been joined by Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland and now Sam Lammers as the latest arrivals at Ibrox.

The Gers confirmed the arrival of Lammers from Atalanta for a reported fee of £3million.

The striker spent much of his spell at Atalanta on loan and netted just two goals in 34 appearances this season.

McAvennie suggested the Gers will struggle to find players who fit in as well as Cantwell.

I get that is the market that Rangers are in,” he told Football Insider.

You never know you might unearth someone, Scottish football might be great for him.

Cantwell has done alright, he has found his level and he will never get a bigger club than Rangers so he will hang about.

He is showing the commitment that fans love. Can they get another half a dozen of them? I do not think so.

To play for Celtic and Rangers you have to be a certain kind of animal and Cantwell is that kind of player.
