Pundit drops ‘huge’ Arsenal claim as wild footage re-analysed

Arsenal have a “huge” task on their hands to compete with Man City this term.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said the Gunners will once again challenge for the title this season but don’t have the squad depth to compete with City.

Despite going 1-0 down against Man United last weekend (3 September), Mikel Arteta’s side managed a 3-1 victory and secured an all important three points.

Martin Odegaard’s equaliser came just a minute after Marcus Rashford put the visitors in front at the Emirates.

It was two injury time goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus that secured the all important win for the Gunners.

As shown on Sky Sports (4 September) there were wild scenes from fans, players and staff following the goals from both Rice and Jesus.

McAvennie insisted the celebrations are evidence of how badly the Gunners want to win.

The scenes after the game against Man United were incredible and we are only three games in,” he told Football Insider.

It was as if they had won the Champions League the way they were celebrating but that shows you the mentality of that team.

They know they are going to be close and every point could be huge for them because they are going to be close this year but I just do not see Man City losing it.

I think Man City have got the strength and depth but I do not think Arsenal have got that yet. Especially when they are letting players like Tierney go.
