Pundit drops ‘huge’ Aston Villa claim after source’s Joao Felix reveal

Aston Villa are a “huge” club that deserve European success and Joao Felix could be the perfect fit.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie has urged The Villans to sign Felix as it could help them replicate West Ham’s recent triumph in the Europa Conference League.

Last week (6 June), Football Insider revealed Aston Villa and several other Premier League clubs have been offered the chance to sign the Atletico Madrid star.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Unai Emery’s side have refused to rule out a move for Felix despite his hefty reported wage of almost £244,000-a-week at Atletico.

Felix netted four goals in 20 appearances across all competitions during his short stint with the Chelsea in the 2022-23 campaign.

With a spot in Europa Conference League next season, McAvennie believes that the arrival of Felix could help the club excel in Europe.

“Villa are going to a make a real push next season with the players they are looking to sign,” he told Football Insider.

“After seeing West Ham win the Europa Conference League, Villa can do the same and then qualify for the Europa League.

Aston Villa

They are making all the right noises, they are a huge club and deserve to be up there with the big teams, so it would not surprise me to see them challenging for trophies.

“I like Villa as a team, and they will only get stronger if they sign Felix.”
