Pundit drops ‘massive’ David de Gea claim after confirmed Man United news

Alan Hutton has suggested Erik ten Hag will “have someone in mind” to replace David de Gea at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said that De Gea’s mistakes this season have been “magnified” because of his status at the club.

The 32-year-old was confirmed as the winner of this season’s Premier League Golden Glove after the weekend’s fixtures when nearest competitor Alisson Becker couldn’t shut out Liverpool opponents Aston Villa.

De Gea’s current contract expires at the end of the season but includes the option of a 12-month extension.

Last month (28 April), Football Insider revealed that the keeper is in advanced talks with United over a new contract but will have to take a cut to his £375,000-per-week wages.

When asked if Ten Hag’s side will be looking for a successor to De Gea in the upcoming window, Hutton told Football Insider:I think they will have to at some stage.

He has been there for a long time, he has been an incredible servant for the club.

Yes he has made mistakes but when you are the highest player at the club, you have been there a long time, you are one of the main guys, you are magnified every time you make a mistake.

Moving forward they will need to bring someone in for the future and Ten Hag will probably have someone in mind.

It seems De Gea will have to take a massive wage cut if he does want to stick around which I think is probably fair.
