Pundit drops ‘massive’ Harry Maguire claim after Man United source’s reveal

Harry Maguire has been under “massive” pressure at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton suggested Maguire needs a “clean break” and a fresh start at a new club.

The 30-year-old’s current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025 after he joined from Leicester City back in 2019 in an £80million move.

Maguire has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag and made just 16 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils last season.

Last month (18 June), Football Insider revealed that Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle United are all interested in Maguire’s services.

Although the centre-back is happy at Old Trafford, he could fall further down the pecking order if Ten Hag succeeds in landing a top class defender this summer.

Hutton suggested life at Man United has been too tough for Maguire.

People do not understand some of the pressures that footballers are under,” he told Football Insider.

Man United is a massive club and you need to be really strong to be able to deal with everything that goes along with it.

You think if you have a bad game and you go to your phone after and you have got thousands of messages absolutely hammering you.

You know you have played badly, you do not need all these people to tell you. I had it myself at Aston Villa at times.

So I think a clean break, move somewhere else, hit the ground running and all is forgotten.
