Pundit: Erik ten Hag ‘absolutely devastated’ after Man United latest
Erik ten Hag will be “absolutely devastated” by the performance of his Man United players against Brighton.
That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ tough start to the season.
Man United began their 2022-2023 Premier League season with a 2-1 home loss to Brighton on Sunday (7 August).
This came after a promising set of pre-season results.
McLeish was surpsied to not see Man United playing with the style Ten Hag honed at Ajax.
“It was a poor first performance from Ten Hag, he will be absolutely devastated,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“He knows the issues and the criticisms of these things after being at Ajax. They are a team that is expected to win every game over there.
“He knows that type of mentality but it was such a lethargic performance. I thought, ‘what have these guys been doing?’.
“They don’t even look sharp enough. Quality-wise, they got ripped apart by Brighton. You wondered if we would see a bit of the manager’s style of play but we never got to see that.
“They were so far behind Brighton on the day. Brighton were so much sharper. It seems as though a lot of the players are still having trouble.”

After the game, Ten Hag described the loss as a “set-back”.
Man United are next in action against Brentford on Saturday (13 August).
In other news, an expert has suggested Erik ten Hag is building the ‘perfect team’ as Manchester United complete new Ajax raid.
