Pundit ‘excited’ by ‘magnificent’ thing he has seen at Newcastle United
Newcastle United can finish in the top seven this season after a “magnificent” start to the season.
That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ summer business.
Newcastle enjoyed another productive window under their new owners, bringing four new players to the club.

Nick Pope, Matt Targett, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak all arrived at St James’ Park with the latter becoming the club’s new record signing.
Five new players arrived in last season’s January window, the first under the new ownership.
After a positive window and start to the season, McLeish doesn’t see why Newcastle can’t be challenging for a European place.
“Eddie Howe is doing a wonderful job,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“He can’t have asked for any more in the transfer window, he has been backed. We all knew he would be.
“I’m excited to see how this Newcastle team does in this first half of the season.
“They have started well and they have a very good first XI now, I think they can take on anybody.
“We saw that draw with Man City and they were magnificent in that game. Another signing has come in since then so they are even better now.
“Let’s see where they are in January, I think they could be up towards that seventh spot.”

Newcastle have only won once in the Premier League this season ahead of Saturday’s (3 September) game against Crystal Palace.
However, they have only lost once.
