Pundit fears Dortmund could ‘batter’ Rangers after early team news

Frank McAvennie predicts Borussia Dortmund will knock Rangers out of the Europa League tonight.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Gers have no chance of progressing if their opposition are “in the mood”.

Rangers beat Dortmund 4-2 in last week’s Europa League knockout round first leg.

Dortmund warmed up for tonight’s game with a 6-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday (20 February) and will be without star man Erling Haaland after he didn’t travel to Glasgow.

On the same day, Rangers struggled to a 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

McAvennie insists Dortmund can overturn their two-goal deficit even if Rangers play as well as they did last week.

“Haaland not being there is a boost, of course it is,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“But I saw Dortmund did beat Monchengladbach 6-0 at the weekend without him so Dortmund will be on a high.

“The bottom line is, they have something to prove. They went and gave Dortmund a roasting last week.

“I’m not a betting man but I think Dortmund will do it if they turn up. It could be game over if they get an early goal.

“Take nothing away from Rangers. They were brilliant last week.

“Morelos and Kent were bright but Dortmund had a really bad night.

“If they come to Ibrox and they are in the mood there isn’t a lot Rangers can do, it would be terrible for them.

“Rangers are more than capable of being battered by Dortmund.”

Rangers

Rangers reached the quarter-finals of last season’s Europa League campaign.

They were knocked out by Slavia Prague.

In other news, Gers’ worst Aaron Ramsey ‘fears’ have now come true according to one pundit.
