Pundit fears Joelinton blow after fresh Newcastle United injury news
Noel Whelan has claimed Newcastle United would lose “energy and physicality” in the midfield if Joelinton is forced to return to the strike force against Fulham on Saturday (1 October).
The former Leeds striker was speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid injuries to Tyneside trio Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, and Chris Wood.
Wilson hasn’t featured for Newcastle since 21 August after sustaining a hamstring injury – but has reassured fans that he will be back “soon”.

According to Chronicle Live (25 September), Wood, Isak, and midfielder Bruno Guimaraes are all carrying injuries after the conclusion of the international break.
Joelinton has started in central midfield for each of Newcastle’s seven Premier League games so far this season.
The 26-year-old was transformed from a striking role by Eddie Howe last season after an ineffective start to life at St James’ Park.
Whelan claimed losing Joelinton in midfield would leave a “real void”.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s a blow but it’s not unfamiliar ground.
“They’ve had a torrid time with injuries and it’s especially hard now when they’re trying to get some momentum together.
“We don’t know the full extent of these injuries.
“Joelinton could play up there, but he’s been fantastic in that midfield area. I don’t think he’s a number nine.

“He’s made that role his own. He uses his physical attributes, great running with the ball, and he keeps his game simple. He’s been transformed.
“You don’t want to lose that energy and that physicality in the midfield. But at the same time, if there are injuries – there’s no other option. It’s a real void.”
