Man City star Kevin De Bruyne in dressing room bust-up – ‘there is clearly a problem’, says pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has “touched a nerve” with his Belgium teammates.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said “there is clearly a problem” in the Belgium camp.

In the build-up to Belgium’s 2-0 loss to Morocco, De Bruyne said his side are “too old” to win the World Cup.

As quoted by the Independent (29 November), Jan Vertonghen fired back at his international teammate and mocked his pre-match comments.

Belgium face Croatia in their final group game with a place in the last 16 in the balance.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on De Bruyne’s comments last week, Robinson said: “It has been difficult for De Bruyne.

“A couple of the things he has said have not helped the team. It has caused unrest if you look at what Vertonghen said. It was a bit of a dig back at him publicly.

“You do not air your laundry publicly, especially not at a major tournament. De Bruyne is honest in his interviews but sometimes he is a bit too honest.

“I thought he was trying to throw people off the trail a bit but it clearly wasn’t judging by what Vertonghen said. It has touched a nerve.

“There is clearly a problem there. It is not a harmonious group. They were miles off it against Morocco. I didn’t see that coming.”
