Pundit ‘feels sorry’ for Giovanni van Bronckhorst after what he’s seen at Rangers

Frank McAvennie has insisted he “feels sorry” for Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said although Van Bronckhorst is suffering with injuries but the players who are also fit haven’t been up to scratch.

Ridvan Yilmaz was just added to the Light Blues’ boss growing injury list as he was subbed off less than ten minutes into the 4-1 win over Aberdeen on Saturday (29 October).

The left-back joins Connor Goldson, John Souttar, Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi and Filip Helander on the sidelines.

Kemar Roofe is also facing another spell on the sidelines after picking up a new knock despite only recently returning from injury.

Rangers suffered a 3-0 defeat to Napoli midweek, keeping them at the bottom of Group A with just one game left to play.

The Ibrox club have zero points with just one goal from five games in the Champions League.

McAvennie insisted the Gers’ problems are not all down to the manager.

First of all I feel sorry for him,” he told Football Insider.

He has got bad injuries. He has got two players at the back who should not be there. [Ben] Davies and [Leon] King should not be playing together.

He is trying to put [James] Sands in midfield to shore it up, it is not working.

They might be good players for the future but they were absolutely slaughtered by [Giovanni] Simeone against Napoli. When Rangers lose the ball and they just stroll about.
