Pundit ‘feels sorry for’ Marcus Rashford as Man United footage re-analysed
Alan Hutton “feels sorry for” Marcus Rashford after his second goal for Man United against Wolves was ruled out for a handball.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender acknowledged that chopping off the goal was the right decision.
As shown on Sky Sports (2 January), Rashford thought he had put United 2-0 up against Wolves on Saturday (31 December).
Despite being left out of the starting lineup after being late for a meeting, the 25-year-old was subbed on for the second half of the game.
The forward had the ball in the back of the net for a second time just eight minutes after putting the Red Devils 1-0 in front at the Molineux.
After a VAR check the goal was ruled out as the ball ricocheted off Rashford’s hand before going in the back of the net.
Erik ten Hag’s side won the game 1-0 thanks to the England international’s second half strike.
When asked for his assessment of the latest, Hutton told Football Insider correspondent Charlotte Cohen: “There is nothing he could have done but it is the rule unfortunately.

“If it hits any part of your hand which leads to a goal, even if that went to his strike partner, it would have still been chopped off.
“I felt sorry for him because he made the goal himself. It was his determination to get himself in there. After everything that happened, for something like that to pop up it is just a shame.“
