Pundit: Five new signings to spark Tottenham title bid – ‘Antonio Conte’s a different breed’
Frank McAvennie has claimed Tottenham will be “challenging on all fronts” next season after a busy start to the transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker claims that Harry Kane will be desperate for the club to win a trophy.
Spurs confirmed the signing of Clement Lenglet, 27, on loan from Barcelona last Friday (8 July).
The French international joined Barca from Sevilla in 2018 before moving to London this summer.
The centre-back becomes Antonio Conte’s fifth signing of the transfer window.
He joins Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster at Tottenham’s pre-season camp in Seoul.
When asked if Tottenham’s five new signings could see them win a title next season, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I think they’ll challenge for a cup.
“The fans want something, Harry Kane wants something. He loves Tottenham and fair play to him he hung about.
“They should’ve kicked on when they were in the Champions League final with [Mauricio] Pochettino. They didn’t and they went back the way.
“But this manager [Conte] is something different, he’s a different breed.
“I think they’ll be challenging on all fronts this year. It does depend if everyone he’s bringing in clicks, it’s a bit of a gamble when you bring in players. If I wasn’t such a staunch West Ham man I would look forward to watching Tottenham.“

Lenglet made 26 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions last season, providing one assist.
The 27-year-old has also made 15 appearances for the France national team, scoring once.
