Pundit fumes at Aaron Ramsdale as controversial Arsenal footage analysed

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale must share some of the blame for the violent scenes that broke out at the end of Sunday’s North London Derby.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Moments after the final whistle was blown in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday (14 January), Ramsdale turned to the Spurs fans behind him and pointed to the Arsenal crest on his shirt.

He also stuck his tongue out at the home fans before going to pick up his water bottle from behind the goal, which is when a supporter climbed on the advertising boards and kicked the Gunners stopper in the back.

The club released a statement on Sunday night to reveal how they were “appalled” by the fan’s behaviour and will take the “strongest possible action, including an immediate ban from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”

When asked if Ramsdale should share any blame for the incident, Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “Yeah, absolutely.

“Ramsdale didn’t just go and do one thing, he went and patted the badge and some sort of pointing gesture.

“I’m sorry, in a game like that, Arsenal’s first win here in nine seasons, to then go and goad the fans like that, you are inviting trouble.

“I’m pleased Richarlison went over and had a word with him as well. What the so-called fan did was out of order, we all know that, it shouldn’t happen.

“I just don’t think Ramsdale needed to do what he did.”

A Hugo Lloris own goal and Martin Odegaard strike helped Arsenal go eight points clear at the top of the table.

The Gunners are next in action against Manchester United on Sunday (22 January).
