Pundit: Gerrard ‘will love’ what he’s seen from Morelos at Rangers

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard “will love” what he saw from Alfredo Morelos last week, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old has looked ‘happy and committed’ in his last two performances.

Morelos scored on Sunday as the Light Blues got back to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership with a 4-2 victory over Ross County at Victoria Park.

The striker’s first league goal of the 2021-22 campaign comes just days after his match-winning performance against Alashkert in Europa League qualifying.

It has been another summer fuelled by transfer speculation for the Colombia international, who has contributed 97 goals and 44 assists in 187 appearances for the Gers.

He has two years remaining on his contract at Ibrox.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Russell Edge for his assessment of Morelos’ form and future, Whelan said:

“Rangers can’t afford to lose him and at the end of the day they do not need to lose him because he is under contract at Rangers.

“The fact that he is scoring goals tells me that he is in a good place and a happy place at the moment. The commitment is there and Steven Gerrard will love that.”

Speaking on the continued transfer speculation surrounding Morelos last month, Gerrard told Sky Sports: “I have read a lot of stuff around Alfredo – I know where it is coming from.

“I don’t know what is going to happen with him.”
