Pundit hails Frank Lampard ‘masterclass’ after what he’s seen from Everton in person

Frank Lampard almost pulled off a “tactical masterclass” as his Everton side took on Tottenham.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Everton lost 2-0 to Tottenham on Saturday (15 October), their second loss in as many games.

The Toffees failed to register a shot on target as Hugo Lloris remained untroubled in the Spurs net (whoscored).

However, Wenham was impressed by what he saw from Lampard’s side.

“If I am judging on the 5-0 result from last season then it was a huge, huge, improvement,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The signings of Coady and Tarkowski have been fantastic and they have added Dwight McNeil who looks promising.

“Onana in the middle was also very good and I think they were unlucky to not be ahead at halftime.

“Their game plan was working to absolute perfection. On the two occasions they broke forward neither Onana or Gray could finish but had they done so, this would have been a tactical masterclass from Frank Lampard.

“Considering last year was a 5-0 drubbing, it was a totally different setup. Eventually, Tottenham’s quality showed and at the end of the game we could have had a couple more goals.

“Once Bissouma came on we had complete control of that game.”

Ahead of the Tottenham game, Everton had only won two games in the 2022-23 Premier League.

They had also earned a creditable home draw against city rivals Liverpool.
