Pundit hails ‘great news’ for Tottenham fans after Kane latest
Noel Whelan has claimed Harry Kane’s performance for Tottenham in their win over Newcastle will ‘encourage’ fans.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old striker found a “happier place” while linking up with fellow hitman Heung-min Son.
Kane scored his first Premier League goal of the season in Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat of Newcastle on Sunday, also turning provider for Son on the stroke of halftime.
The England hero registered the second-most key passes (two) during the clash, second only to his South Korean strike partner (as per WhoScored).
Kane finally notched in league competition with a measured chip over Karl Darlow after being set loose by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Whelan insisted the “pressure will be off” for the striker after finally breaking his duck against Newcastle.
“It’s great news for Tottenham fans,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s off the mark now, that was the biggest thing coming into this game.
“As strikers, we work on confidence and goals – and now he’s got that one under his belt the pressure will be off his shoulders.
“He looked a lot better, he linked up the play nicely with Son.”
“And that’s what goals will do; now he will be in a happier place.
“But it wasn’t the best opposition, that has to be considered as well – they’re winless this season.
“I would have expected Tottenham to go there, with the quality and calibre of player they have and win that game.”

Tottenham have managed back-to-back wins after slumping to losses against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal in September.
Kane has netted seven in 11 across all competitions this season.
