Pundit hails Levy for rejecting ‘hell of a lot of money’ for Tottenham after new Kane details emerge
Noel Whelan has admitted Daniel Levy needs to take some credit for keeping Harry Kane at Tottenham.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on Kane.
On Wednesday (25 August) Kane took to social media to state he would be staying with Tottenham.
On 18th August, The Telegraph reported Levy refused to pick up the phone to City chiefs as they tried to sign the England captain.
Despite months of speculation, Kane remains a Tottenham player and Whelan admits that is partly due to Levy.
“He did well and if the money isn’t right then it won’t happen,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge when asked about Levy’s role in Kane’s decision.
“The player is only worth what the chairman believes in his head, £100million is a lot of money. It’s a hell of a lot of money considering the climate we’re in.
“He signed a six-year contract with no get-out clause in it. That might be a mistake by Kane’s advisors.
“It is what it is. Whether you want to go or not you have a contract you have to abide by.
“He has three years left, that’s a long long time. It’s not like there are just months to run.

“This isn’t the be-all and end-all for Kane, what would be the be-all and end-all is if he doesn’t win something with Tottenham.
“Everyone at the club must go all out this season to make sure they bring some silverware back, it’s been a long long time.”
