Pundit has unexpected take on Isak after what he spotted at Newcastle

Alexander Isak played like Tottenham flop Roberto Soldado on his Newcastle United home debut.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Isak, 22, found himself one on one with Vincente Guaita in the first half of Saturday’s (3 September) 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace though he placed his straight at the stopper.

Isak scored a stunning debut goal in the 2-1 loss against Liverpool on Wednesday (31 August) and saw a second goal chalked off for a marginal offside.

However, Wenham claims the miss against Palace could prove to be a significant mental blow to the striker.

“I’ll tell you what was poor in that Newcastle game, when Isak missed that one-on-one,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He took an absolute age to decide what he was doing. He was through on goal and then he kept dribbling instead of shooting.

“That was really poor. It reminded me of Roberto Soldado and how he played for Tottenham. That being said, he has done more for Newcastle than Soldado did for us purely by scoring on his debut.

“You just wonder how it will affect him, missing that effort.”

The Magpies sit 12th in the Premier League after six games of the new season.

They are next in action against West Ham on Sunday (11 September).
