Pundit hits out at Mohamed Salah as new Liverpool details emerge – ‘he knows’
Noel Whelan has insisted Mohamed Salah is just “blending in” at Liverpool and looks “miles off” his best.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed more and more Premier League defenders will be able to “read” the 30-year-old’s game if he cannot reinvent himself.
Salah has managed just two goals and three assists in the Premier League so far this season as the Merseysiders endure their worst-ever start to a campaign under Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds sit 10th in the league having won just two of their opening eight top-flight games.
As per FBRef, Salah is enduring his worst-ever season in a Liverpool shirt – recording his worst-ever goal contribution tally (0.64 per game) as well as experiencing a drop off in his expected goals figures (0.42 xG per game).
The Egypt international signed a fresh three-year deal in July which Football Insider revealed is worth £400,000-a-week – costing the Reds £62.4million in total.
Whelan suggested Salah himself will not be happy with his performances.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He needs to try and get the best out of himself.
“He knows that he’s not playing to the best of his capabilities, and he won’t be happy when he’s come off the pitch without scoring or getting an assist.
“He’s used to being that star player and that match-winner, but at the moment he’s just blending in.
“We’re not seeing the same Salah – taking games by the scruff of the neck, coming up with individual brilliance, coming up with big goals.

“He needs to find it in himself to improve these performances because the longer he goes playing like this – more and more defenders will just read his game.
“He just looks miles off what he used to be.”
