Pundit: I 'wouldn't be surprised' if Coady signs for Tottenham after discussions held
Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Wolves captain Conor Coady ahead of a potential move to Tottenham this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds and Middlesbrough striker claimed the 28-year-old is “one of the best defenders in the Premier League”.
Spurs are in the market for at least one centre-half in this transfer window.
As revealed by Football Insider on 26th June, Nuno Espirito Santo wants Spurs to sign Coady if he becomes the club’s new manager.
Nuno is currently the frontrunner to succeed Jose Mourinho in north London and has agreed personal terms ahead of a potential move.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Whelan said:

“Coady is in the England squad which means he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
“I have been an admirer of his for a long time. He has been there with Wolves from the Championship and has always handled himself very, very well.
“He is a born leader who organises the back line. He is a great competitor and that is something that Tottenham have been lacking at the back.
“It would not surprise me if Conor Coady signs for Spurs if Nuno is manager because they have such a strong relationship.
“Nuno saw something in him and he was pretty much an ever-present in a very successful Wolves side.
“Every manager takes players from the old clubs and I would not be surprised if Tottenham went straight in for him.”
Coady has made 275 appearances for Wolves since joining from Huddersfield in July 2015.
He has four years remaining on his contract at Molineux.
