Pundit in ‘no doubt’ about Chelsea potentially sacking Graham Potter

Frank McAvennie has insisted Chelsea will not sack Graham Potter.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Potter was appointed as part of a long-term project at Stamford Bridge, not as a short-term fix.

Before the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday (15 January), the Blues had won just one of their last nine Premier League games.

Their most recent defeat was a shock 2-1 loss to newly promoted Fulham during which Atletico Madrid loanee Joao Felix was sent off for a late tackle and will miss their next three matches.

As quoted by the Mirror (14 January), the former Brighton boss insisted he has had “full support” from the Chelsea board.

Potter added that recent conversations with the bosses have been “very reassuring” despite the poor results.

But, the Englishman added that if they think he is part of the problem then they have every right to get rid of him.

McAvennie insisted Chelsea won’t get rid of their new manager.

I just think they can’t sack Potter because he has not had a window,” he told Football Insider.

When the board got Potter it is a long-term thing, he is not a short-term fix.

He has to build a team and I have no doubt he will do that if he gets his chance.

Chelsea

Chelsea are currently tenth in the Premier League table behind the likes of Fulham, Brighton and Brentford.

Their next test is up against Liverpool, another side who have been struggling for form this season.

In other news, according to sources, Chelsea are willing to listen to Raheem Sterling offers as £250m+ January signing spree lined up.
