Pundit is ‘worried’ about Everton after new Bramley-Moore development

The decision to build a new Everton stadium while the club is at risk of relegation is “really strange.”

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ relegation threat.

Football Insider revealed on 15 November that the Merseysiders have decided to stand by Frank Lampard and give him time to turn their season around after crunch talks following their poor first half of the season.

Everton have lost seven of their 15 Premier League outings this term – including three defeats in their last five games.

With the construction Everton’s new Bramley-Moore docks stadium underway, McAvennie insists the Toffees can’t afford any more mistakes this season.

“You do worry when you look at them,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Those last two games before the break were so poor. What do I think of the stadium? It’s brave to start building it when they are where they are in the league.

“Has it already been paid for? Do we know? Because if they are waiting on Premier League money then there is no guarantee they will get it.

“Usually teams who build these stadiums are at the top of their game and doing really well. Like Tottenham did theirs while they were reaching the Champions League final.

“Everton have been relegation contenders for years now. I find the whole thing really strange.”

Everton sit one place and one point outside the relegation places.

They lost 4-0 and 3-1 to Bournemouth in their final two games before the break in the League Cup and Premier League respectively.
