Pundit issues ‘£100m’ Bruno Guimaraes transfer claim after Newcastle update

Newcastle United will not sell Bruno Guimaraes this summer amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Brazilian’s future.

On Thursday (18 August), Sky Sports reported Man United are “close” to agreeing a £59.2million deal to sign Real Madrid star Casemiro.

The same day, ESPN Brazil reported that Real Madrid will attempt to sign Guimaraes, 24, as his replacement.

Speaking on Friday (19 August), Eddie Howe, as quoted by Craig Hope, insisted Guimaraes is “absolutely not” for sale at any price.

Kenny insists Newcastle fans should not worry about the “incredible” midfielder leaving just yet.

“Newcastle are trying to build right now,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They have this Brazilian there who is a great age. He scored five goals last season in the few games that he played, it’s like one goal every three games, something like that.

“They would be stupid to let him go. I know money talks but Newcastle is a project, they are trying to build, not get rid of their best players.

“I can’t see that happening. How much would Newcastle demand? £90million? £100million? Average players are going for £50million these days and that boy is not average.

“I don’t think there is any chance of him leaving this summer.”

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in January.

He has made 19 appearances for the Magpies and scored five goals.
