Pundit issues ‘£150m’ Anthony Gordon claim amid Everton latest – ‘I can guarantee…’

Everton would be facing relegation if they had sold Anthony Gordon to Chelsea in the final days of the transfer window.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As reported by Sky Sports on 23 August, Chelsea were prepared to pay £60million for the 21-year-old Toffees’ forward.

Wenham claims Everton would be facing the drop had they sold Gordon before Thursday’s deadline.

“He scored a great goal against Brentford, he looked very sure of what he was doing, hitting it hard and low,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“If Everton had sold him, they would be going down. I can guarantee they would have been gone if he went to Chelsea.

“He hasn’t done too much for Everton but he has become their focal point, he is their identity. A young lad who has the number 10 shirt.

“They were not going to sell him in the last week of the window, there was no time, they couldn’t replace him.

“It would have put such a negative feeling on their season. The value is what the club makes it, it’s like the £150million Declan Rice thing.

“If you take him out of that side then West Ham lost too much, so he probably is worth £150million to them. It’s similar to that with Gordon.”

Gordon has three years left on his contract at Goodison Park after signing a five-year deal in 2020.

He has scored twice in the Premier League this season.
