Pundit issues £65m Anthony Gordon claim after Newcastle source’s bid update
Noel Whelan has insisted Chelsea will have to up their bid for Everton star Anthony Gordon to £65million in order to seal a deal.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 21-year-old would be a potential replacement for one of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, or Hakim Ziyech.
This site revealed on Sunday (14 August) that Chelsea have tabled a £40million bid for Gordon in a severe test of Everton’s resolve to keep the player.

The Toffees knocked back a £35million bid from Newcastle last month (6 July) – with the Magpies now considering a fresh bid.
Chelsea trio Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi, and Ziyech have all been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer after falling down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.
Whelan insisted both sides will have to up their bids with relegation-threatened Everton needing reinforcements all over the pitch.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “This [Gordon] is probably a replacement for one of Hudson-Odoi, Pulisic, or Ziyech.
“He’s not a number nine fix, that’s for sure. He’s a wide player who can play from either side.
“This is to cover one of those players leaving – that’s how I see it.
“I don’t think £40m would prise him away from Everton, either. Not with the problems they’re in right now.
“He’s so important to them, so I think you’re looking in that £60-65m bracket for someone like him.”

Gordon is under contract at Goodison Park until June 2025.
The Toffees academy product scored four goals in 40 outings last season.
