Pundit issues ‘£80m’ Harry Maguire claim after Man United latest
Frank McAvennie has claimed Harry Maguire will struggle for a place in the England team if he can’t fight his way back into the Man United side.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the 29-year-old has a “big” challenge ahead of him at Old Trafford.
The England international has been an unused substitute in United’s last two Premier League fixtures.
The defender was dropped after back to back defeats for the Red Devils.
Raphael Varane has been Erik ten Hag’s centre-back choice.
When asked how Maguire will be feeling about being left out of the United team, McAvennie told Football Insider: “A lot of players from abroad come in and they’re used to rotation.
“The British players want to play and Maguire will want to play.
“The World Cup is in a couple of months, if he’s not playing will the manager pick him? He’ll certainly be in the squad I would think. But can you trust him to play if he ‘s not getting a game for Man United? I don’t know.
“He’s not been playing well, he’s not been dropped for anything other than the fact that he’s not playing well.

“Show the country, show the manager what you’re made of and show that you’re determined to get back in to the team. Show what you’ve got, show that you deserve to be captain, show you’ve got the gall to come back and get back in that team. Get back to the player that they paid £80million for.
“Get back to basics, go and enjoy your football again and then get back in the United team. He’s got a big challenge ahead of him but only he can change that.“
