Pundit issues ‘absolutely huge’ David Moyes claim after West Ham sack reveal

Noel Whelan has claimed “backlash” from the West Ham board and fans could prove too much for David Moyes if he cannot mastermind victories in upcoming games against Leeds, Wolves, and Brentford.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, accused the 59-year-old of failing to find a “settled side” so far this season.

Irons sources told this site on 6 December that there is tension between Moyes and joint-chairman David Sullivan over transfers – which has led to new question marks internally over the manager’s job.

West Ham sit just one point above the Premier League drop zone despite spending a whopping £150million on summer arrivals like Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta.

They return to action against league leaders Arsenal – but face Brentford, Leeds United, and Wolves heading into the New Year.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Managers are always under pressure because this is a results-driven business.

“That’s especially true for Moyes, with the precarious position West Ham are in – they’re just one point above that relegation zone.

“They’ve gone out and spent money but he’s not found a settled side just yet.

“They haven’t got going. Bowen, in particular, took a long time to get his first goal.

“These three games – Brentford, Leeds, and Wolves – are absolutely huge. He’ll be expected to win all three.

“If he ends up losing a couple of those, the backlash from the board and from the fans could be too much for Moyes.”
