Pundit issues ‘absolutely spectacular’ Sven Botman claim as ‘big’ Newcastle United prediction made

Sven Botman is “absolutely sensational” and could help Newcastle United achieve big things this season.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the summer signing’s start to life on Tyneside.

Botman, 22, has started all but two of Newcastle’s 12 Premier League games this season and is yet to suffer a defeat at his new club.

He arrived from Lille in the summer in a deal Sky Sports (1 July) claim is worth around £35million.

The centre-back has been a key part of a Newcastle United defence that has only conceded 10 goals this season, the fewest of any Premier League side.

McManus was blown away by Botman’s performance against Spurs on Sunday (23 October).

“He was absolutely spectacular, he cruised through the game,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“That defence looked so unrattled against Spurs. I think they just look so comfortable in the second half.

“You thought Spurs were going to come out and have a real go at Newcastle and they got the goal but Newcastle looked so comfortable and could have scored a couple at the other end.

“That’s in large part to the defence and how calm they were when under the pressure they were under.

Botman has been a great signing by the looks of it and as you say, he is only 22, he looks so, so good.

Newcastle

“That place in his now, he has to keep it and keep developing but there is no doubt Newcastle have a real player there.

“They are going to do big things this season and he can be a big part of that.”
