Pundit issues ‘big’ Alexander Isak claim after Newcastle United latest – ‘where is he?’

Newcastle United could challenge clubs at the top end of the Premier League once their best players return from injury.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Newcastle United have been without Alexander Isak for their last two Premier League games after he picked up a muscle injury while on international duty.

Shelvey hasn’t played all season after getting injured in pre-season.

The Magpies are currently sixth in the Premier League after winning back-to-back games against Fulham and Brentford.

Wenham is expecting Newcastle to continue to impress with Isak and Shelvey still to return.

“You think about how well they are doing now, where is Isak?” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Saint-Maximin only came back at the weekend, he didn’t really impact either of those two wins, neither did Joelinton.

“Who else? Shelvey wasn’t there either. So these are the players who you would always have in the starting XI if you were Eddie Howe.

“I don’t believe Wilson and Isak have played together yet. You put them up front with Almiron and that is a very talented attack.

“That must be so exciting for Newcastle fans but then again it must be frustrating that it hasn’t happened yet. I think we will see a full-strength Newcastle before the World Cup.

“That will be something to keep an eye on because then we can judge where they really are and if they can challenge some of the big clubs at the top end of the table.

Isak scored twice in three games for the Magpies before getting injured.

Newcastle are next in action against Man United on Sunday (16 October).
