Pundit issues ‘big’ Josip Juranovic claim as new Celtic details emerge
Alan Hutton isn’t surprised Celtic didn’t fight to keep hold of Josip Juranovic in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender said that the Hoops put their faith in Alistair Johnston and it has paid off.
Juranovic quit Parkhead in January after an incredibly successful World Cup campaign with Croatia and the arrival of Alistair Johnston.
He joined Bundesliga side Union Berlin in a deal worth £10million.
The Croatian had been linked with several European giants such as Barcelona, Chelsea and Man United.
But as quoted by footballscotland (2 March), the 27-year-old said he was “sad” that the Glasgow giants didn’t try harder to keep him at the club.
The right-back was also unaware that the Celts had signed his eventual successor whilst he was in Qatar and it was friends who broke the news to him.
When asked if he was surprised the Hoops didn’t try harder to hold on to Juranovic, Hutton told Football Insider: “Obviously the manager thought that he had somebody coming through that they signed who was more than capable of taking on the role of full-back.
“He has showed everybody that he is. Ultimately that decision was right, that is just his personal view on the matter.

“After the World Cup there was obviously a lot of talk about where he was going to go, even bigger teams that did not quite happen.
“But it has worked out for him. He is at a team that is fighting at the top of the Bundesliga so you can’t argue with that. I think that is just his personal view on the matter.“
In other news, Hutton changes his mind after re-analysing controversial Kyogo-Celtic footage.
