Pundit issues ‘big’ Man United claim as Martin Dubravka terms agreed

Martin Dubravka will not be starting games for Man United if he joins the club from Newcastle United.

That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ hunt for a new keeper.

On Saturday (27 August), sources told Football Insider that Man United have agreed personal terms with Newcastle stopper Dubravka.

The Slovakia international, 33, has slipped down the pecking order at St James’ Park, failing to make an appearance this season following the arrival of Nick Pope this summer.

Dubravka’s last two seasons have been heavily hampered by injury as he has only been able to make 39 league appearances since the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

McLeish can’t see Dubravka getting any more first-team opportunities at Old Trafford.

“Would he be going into the Man United first team?” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“It looks like he would be going there as a sub as well. In any case, it’s a short life for footballers, they have to grab opportunities when they can.

“Possibly, going to Man United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, it is something in his mind he wants to do in his life.

“Newcastle are looking very good without him and it seems as though Dubravka wants to move, so let’s see if this one gets done.

Dubravka has made 130 appearances for Newcastle since signing in the summer of 2018 on an initial loan deal.
