Pundit issues ‘big’ Mauricio Pochettino claim after source’s Chelsea reveal

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is more likely to be offered the England job than the Chelsea job.

That’s according to former Spurs and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Pochettino’s links to the job at Stamford Bridge.

On Monday (12 December), sources told this site that Mauricio Pochettino has told friends he is keen on the Chelsea manager’s job.

Chelsea

The Argentine is interested in taking over at the Blues if it were to become available and is “pushing for the job” behind the scenes but Potter’s position at the London club is not under immediate threat

According to the Evening Standard (13 December), Gareth Southgate’s future as England manager is under threat after their World Cup quarter-final exit to France.

Last month (17 November), as quoted by football.london, the former Spurs boss admitted he would like to succeed Southgate as the England national team boss.

Hutton said he can imagine Pochettino succeeding Southgate.

The biggest thing about him at this moment in time is the England job,” he told Football Insider.

Chelsea

What is going to happen with Gareth Southgate? Is he a possibility to take that? That is something that I think would suit him well.

He has been a manager in the country for a long time, he knows a lot of the players. That is probably something that is closer than any sort of Chelsea job.

In other news, sources have told this site that Chelsea new arrival is set to join on 1 February after agreement is struck.
