Pundit issues ‘big’ Miguel Almiron prediction after ‘unbelievable’ Newcastle United development

Miguel Almiron’s newfound form for Newcastle United is “really exciting” for the Toon Army faithful.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the winger’s form.

Almiron scored his second and third goals of the season as Newcastle beat Fulham 4-1 on Saturday (1 October).

The Paraguayan’s first strike has earned much praise with Alan Shearer dubbing the tight-angle volley a potential goal-of-the-season contender on Match of the Day (1 October).

Almiron has never scored more than eight in a single season for the Magpies.

McLeish insists Eddie Howe and his staff deserve the credit for Almiron’s form.

“It looks like he has been encouraged to get closer to the goal,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“He has that bit of extra speed where, if there is a deflection or a rebound then he has the pace to get on the end of that chance.

“To see him getting those goals from close in is probably music to the ears of Newcastle United fans. I think that is what was missing in his first years.

“He was really exciting to look at. He would run past people and work really hard. Now you are seeing him getting into really good goalscoring opportunities.

“The other goal he scored, was unbelievable as well. It looks like the coaching team have been working with him on that. Hopefully he can have a big season now.”

Newcastle next face Brentford on Saturday (8 October).

The Magpies are seventh in the table.
