Pundit issues ‘big’ Newcastle United claim after source’s £60m Bruno Guimaraes reveal

Frank McAvennie has claimed joining Newcastle United is a win-win for players.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said £200,000 per-week in wages will be “nothing” compared to what other players will be making in a few years.

On 24 December, sources told this site that the Magpies are making progress on a £200k-a-week contract with Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle have made preliminary contact with the 25-year-old’s representatives and are hopeful he will sign an extension in the coming months.

The deal would be worth up to £60million in total and cement him as the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

Guimaraes‘ current contract runs until 2026 after signing a four-year deal in January 2022.

McAvennie is pleased to see players being rewarded for their hard work.

He is making everyone better,” he told Football Insider.

Eddie Howe has got everyone playing like superstars. When it comes to sorting out wages, £200,000-a-week is going to be nothing compared to some of the players in a few years’ time.

The money is going mad. [Kieran] Trippier will be on great money as well.

Newcastle

It is a win-win for people because Newcastle is a one club city. It would be a great place to go and play football.

They are giving £200k to reward people for doing what they are doing. That is a big well done to Eddie Howe as well because he has brought him on.
