Pundit issues ‘big’ Newcastle United transfer claim after source’s £300m talks reveal

Newcastle United could invest up to £300million on a brand new, state-of-the-art training ground.

That’s according to former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Mapies’ next commercial move.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (29 November) that Newcastle are preparing for their next big commercial move, with talks underway over a deal that could be worth as much as £300million over 10 years.

Whelan insists this money should be spent on a new training ground.

“The big one thing about Newcastle is that the training ground needs to be better,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“When you are going out there and signing big players for big money, which Newcastle will do between now and this new training ground being built, you need better facilities.

“You want these players seeing state-of-the-art medical facilities. The infrastructure for the academy players needs to improve as well.

“Everything revolves around that training ground, for me. That is where you spend the majority of your time as a football club.

“I think this is the right way to go, Newcastle identified that when the new owners came in. They need new facilities across the board.

“That helps to attract bigger players, bigger names going forward. They want to sign for teams who have the best in class.

“If it is £300million then it will be money well spent, there is no doubt in my mind about that.

“Newcastle are at a really important stage of their development and they need to get this bit right.”
