Pundit issues ‘big’ Patterson claim after Everton source’s reveal – pundit
Nathan Patterson will be given the opportunity to be first-choice right-back at Everton by Rafael Benitez.
That is the view of former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 20-year-old’s role at Goodison Park.
On Tuesday, Everton confirmed the signing of Patterson for on a five-and-a-half year contract from Rangers.
An Everton source told Football Insider (4 January) that the Scotland international will earn £28,000-a-week on Merseyside.
The Toffees will pay an initial £12million fee for Patterson but that could rise to £16m with add-ons.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Patterson’s prospective role at Goodison Park, Robinson said:
“They have struggled in full-back areas this season. [Seamus] Coleman has been injured and out of form. Players have been playing out of position.
“Patterson did not get much game time at Rangers because of [James] Tavernier but at Everton I expect him to be get more game time.
“He has a real opportunity to come in and stake a claim for a starting spot. I think Benitez will give him an opportunity and if he takes it I think he’ll be in the team every week.
“I can see him having a big future at Everton. He is very highly rated. I’ve heard very good things about him and I like what I’ve seen. He’s a very good young player.”

Patterson made 27 appearances for Rangers in total.
His game time was restricted by the presence of Gers captain and fellow right-back James Tavernier.
