Pundit issues bold West Ham prediction after Sky’s takeover update
Kevin Phillips has insisted West Ham will not present a long-term challenge to England’s top four even if they are taken over by Daniel Kretinsky.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Hammers would struggle to compete with the likes of Man United for high-profile signings.
As reported by Sky Sports stake in West Ham, with a view to completing a full takeover in the future.
The initial acquisition would reportedly value the east London club at over £600m.
West Ham have also been buoyed by another piece of good news after a club statement revealed they have been granted permission to expand the London Stadium’s capacity to 62,500.
The Hammers sit fourth in the top flight this term after securing European football with a sixth-place finish last season.
Asked if David Moyes’ side could challenge the Premier League’s top four long term, Phillips told Football Insider: “I think they can challenge them this season.
“But I can’t see them breaking into that top four.
“I just don’t think they’ll be able to sign the players that clubs like Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool sign – purely because of the size of the football club.
“If a world-class player had a choice of Man United and West Ham, they would choose Man United and that is naturally going to go against them.
“However, David Moyes deserves so much credit for putting that squad together and getting the best out of every last player.
“I just don’t think they’ll be able to maintain the challenge year-in, year-out.”

West Ham face Aston Villa in their next league game.
The Hammers have won three of their last five in the Premier League.
