Pundit issues ‘crazy’ transfer verdict as Newcastle United predicted to seal last-gasp deal
Newcastle United may be struggling in the January transfer window due to the effects of financial fair play.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ slow window.
Newcastle are yet to make a signing this month despite spending lavishly in the two previous transfer windows.

However, the club have failed to sell any of their fringe stars with the likes of Dwight Gayle and Jeff Hendrick out on loan in the Championship.
McManus claims the failure to sell any senior players since the Saudi-led takeover went through in October 2021 may be hindering the club’s ability to spend.
“Newcastle have spent well but they have spent a lot,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“That January window was crazy but they had to do it to stay up, they didn’t have a choice really. All of those signings are still doing well too.
“Then in the summer they went again but I don’t remember any players leaving. I know a lot of players left on loan but that won’t help them with FFP.
“Those players are still on the books and Newcastle are probably paying their wages too. The problem is Newcastle don’t have many sellable players.
“So that’s not going to be fixed anytime soon because no one who plays regularly is going to go.

“I wonder if that is what has stopped them from doing any business this month.
“They might have to get creative to get a deal done right before the window closes.”
