Pundit issues ‘devastating’ Callum McGregor verdict after Celtic latest – ‘you worry’

Callum McGregor’s latest injury blow could prove to be “devastating” for Celtic.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid the latest on the player’s fitness.

McGregor, 29, picked up an injury in the Celts’ Champions League defeat to RB Leipzig on 5 October.

On 8 October, Sky Sports revealed that the Celtic captain will be out of action until after the World Cup in Qatar.

McLeish insists Celtic’s chances of pulling away from Rangers in the Scottish Premiership are in tatters for the time being.

“We all know how much you miss your best players when they are injured, it goes without saying,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“To lose your captain and a guy who has started pretty much every game this season, of course it is going to be a blow.

“Celtic still have a fair few games before the break for the World Cup and they will be wanting to pull away from Rangers who we know have injury problems of their own.

“McGregor is a key player, he keeps Celtic ticking and he is huge for them in terms of him just being on the pitch.

“It’s a devastating loss for them. You worry about whether the guy who comes in can replace was McGregor gives them.”

McGregor has made 12 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions this season.

Celtic are next in action against Motherwell on Wednesday (19 October).
