Pundit issues emphatic Cameron Carter-Vickers verdict after what he’s seen at Celtic

Alan Hutton has claimed Cameron Carter-Vickers will be a mainstay in the Celtic XI this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender suggested Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou has found his main man at the back in Carter-Vickers.

The 24-year-old has started all of the Hoops’ fixtures this season and played the full 90 minutes against Hearts on Sunday.

He has played alongside both Moritz Jenz and Carl Starfelt this term.

On 10 June, the Glasgow club confirmed the permanent transfer of Carter-Vickers from Tottenham following a successful loan spell at the club.

The defender put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Scottish champions.

Hutton claimed the defender will be difficult to oust from the starting XI.

I always think teams have that one centre-back that plays all the time,” he told Football Insider.

It’s definitely a position where it’s not as physically demanding as others. That’s not to say it’s easy, not by any stretch of the imagination. But you always want that solid base there and he seems to be that player for Ange so it’s probably him plus one.

It’s up to the two to fight it out. But, like anybody, if you have a dip in form or whatever, you’ve got that room within the squad to rotate. I think Ange is probably happy with that at this moment in time.

Celtic

Carter-Vickers made 45 appearances for Celtic across all competitions last season.

He scored four goals and provided one assist in those outings.
